LIBRARY AND MILITARY HISTORICAL MUSEUM

The ANMI Group of Ortona in the latter  years has carried out a rather ambitious project,  to create a library on the history of the Navy.

An attempt was made to build a documented history of the Navy and its participation in the two world wars and more generally in the life of the nation.
Although the project is in progress, the volumes, so far acquired through large sums donated to the Association by private companies, are over three hundred.

Among them are all the texts currently published by the Historical Office of the Navy.

The series available concern:
- The Navy in the Second World War
- The Ships of Italy.
- Italian naval policy.
- Navy men.
- The decorated to the value of the Navy.
- Generic volumes on maritime and naval issues.

From April 2011, the library was open to all citizens at its headquarters.

Taking into account the specificity of the collection of books and their usability,  both the Municipal Library and the Library of the Sea  of the State Technological Institute - Transport and Logistics "Leone Acciaiuoli",  have accepted the list of volumes in their general archive,  in order to extend the consultation to a wider catchment area.  Among other things, this allowed the Group to enter as a partner  in the 2011 project "weaving ideas - building words" of the Municipality of Ortona  and to assume the attribution of "Marine Documentation Center".

Since 2017, the Historical Offices of Defense, the Army, the Air Force, the Carabinieri and the Guardia di Finanza have started an effective collaboration with the Library  contributing with the submission  of their specific publications. The rich  collection,   Moreover,  makes use of texts concerning the History of Abruzzo and Ortona, donated by the Associazione di Storia Patria of Ortona and by the Menabò Publishing House.

The various texts are reported in the respective catalogs listed in  menu.

Considering that these catalogs only allow a visualization of the volumes in possession, any research on authors and related texts can be communicated directly to the Library, through the relative PDC.
